i've been checking on the bug daily with the doppler from home, but after calling them, they wanted to rule out a bladder infection and other things that could potentially cause the cramping and discomfort i was feeling.
after arriving at the dr., liz checked on the bug...heartbeat nice and strong, and then proceeded with a couple cultures and caths so they could rule out infections. she said she wanted to check my cervix, but because of the placenta previa, she couldn't do it manually, so i would need another ultrasound...making this my 7th or 8th ultrasound. we were scheduled for an ultrasound the following friday (the 27th)...our big ultrasound, but she said that while i was there that friday, they would take care of what they could then. oh.my.goodness...i was so excited, except john or anthony wasn't there with me...so i quickly became bummed and thought about asking them not to even check. she said she thought we should go ahead with the u/s because i would wonder all weekend and into the next week if something was wrong. well, lucky for me, michelle the u/s tech couldn't fit me in until 11:30 and it was now only 10:30 so i had time to call john to meet me and head to daycare to spring tony early!
we all met back at the dr.'s office and were led into the u/s room...2 hands...2 feet...2 kidneys...bladder...everything is looking good so far...
oh wait.
what's that??
oh boy! it's a boy!
meet vincent "vinnie" robert d'angelo
our little bug's a boy! and this little boy (the 5th total now for my side of the family in 5 years) is measuring just perfectly. we go back in 3 weeks for another ultrasound of him to finalize some measurements (not because anything was wrong, just because they need him to be a little bigger). she saw all the major organs, etc., but needs to get good measurements of them...i'm not going to complain about another peek at my little man.
i will be honest...i would have loved a baby girl knowing i have an amazing little boy at home and that this is most likely our last (last with treatments anyway - it's all up to Him now if we're meant to have another). but after everything we went through to get to the point of even being pregnant this time. after losing our little one last year just weeks after the excrutiating loss my sister had, we honestly couldn't be more thrilled to have a healthy baby boy!
and john agreed to let me redo/update the nursery anyway. originally the plan was that i would order new bedding to "pink it up" if the bug had been a girl. but he agreed the nursery theme and look is a little outdated compared to nurseries these days, so i bought some new bedding friday evening. should arrive this week. so excited. first purchase (well, ok 2nd purchase...i purchased a nuna leaf back in june hoping i'd use it or i'd give it as a shower gift) and knowing the sex of the baby somehow makes this all so much more real to me.
here is vinnie's nursery bedding:

and i couldn't be more excited that his nursery is basically the "baby" version of big brother tony's new room!! tony loves that their rooms both have cars!
