13w3d - from the couch (now with update)

spotting.

terrified.

update this afternoon following dr. appointment.

update 3:30 p.m. est:

the bug is fine.

john and i arrived at the dr.'s office at 1. the spotting had been coming and going fairly inconsistently all day to that point. i was terrified and in tears as michelle led us into the ultrasound room. with john sitting next to me and my hand in his, she started the scan. i physically could not open my eyes. they just wouldn't open. after a few moments of silence and no "i'm sorries" i finally opened them to see the bug's heartbeat thumping away. phew.

we fortunately were able to immediately find the cause of the the bleeding. i have a minor case of placenta previa. if you've clicked on the link and looked at the drawings of the different severities, mine is most simiilar to the middle. it's just barely covering my cervix. the dr. we met with following the ultrasound said that at this stage of the game, a previa is fairly common and it doesn't get "dangerous" until after the pregnancy has progressed beyond the half-way point. she give me a 98-99% favorable outcome that the placenta will move out of the way as the baby grows/pregnancy progresses and moves up away from my cervix. she said so long as it moves to beyond 2 cm from the cervix it won't complicate a vaginal delivery. 2 cm is nothing, right? i'll take those odds.

we are on schedule for our regular ob appointment on friday at 14w and then again in another 4 or so for our growth scan/anatomy scan/previa scan.
